Project Heart

The University of Newcastle Campus Heart project represents a major investment in creating a central, connected hub for student life, learning, and community engagement. Designed to bring together key services, study areas, and social spaces, the development reflects a contemporary approach to campus planning – open, accessible, and highly functional. For FC Glass & Aluminium, the project required a disciplined approach to glazing and aluminium systems that could support both the architectural vision and the practical demands of a high-use environment.

The University of Newcastle Campus Heart project represents a major investment in creating a central, connected hub for student life, learning, and community engagement. Designed to bring together key services, study areas, and social spaces, the development reflects a contemporary approach to campus planning—open, accessible, and highly functional.

For FC Glass & Aluminium, the project required a disciplined approach to glazing and aluminium systems that could support both the architectural vision and the practical demands of a high-use environment. Large expanses of glass were integral to the design, maximising natural light and reinforcing visual connections across internal and external spaces. This required precise alignment, consistent detailing, and careful coordination with surrounding structural elements.

The scale and complexity of the build meant that every component had to be fabricated and installed to exact tolerances. Glazing systems needed to balance transparency with performance, including thermal efficiency, safety compliance, and durability under constant use. Aluminium framing was selected to provide structural reliability while maintaining clean sightlines throughout the building.

Working within an active university environment, FC Glass & Aluminium coordinated closely with project teams to manage staging, access, and timing. This ensured minimal disruption while maintaining progress against programme requirements.

The completed outcome delivers a cohesive and highly functional space, where glazing and aluminium elements contribute to both performance and experience—supporting a modern campus environment designed for connection, movement, and everyday use.
